How to Style Your Bikini Aesthetic

In the age of an overcrowded social media market, we find ourselves asking, "Is this aesthetic enough?" The answer is — whatever makes you happy is part of your own style. With so many options of clothing (and swimwear) available, why stick to the same look every time? Model and foodie Laura Odegard is the definition of personal style that's ever-evolving. We had to find out what her all-time favorite suits are — and how to style them, of course!

BIKINI: How would you describe your personal style?

LAURA ODEGARD: My personal style is a cross between a yoga instructor and a pageant queen. When I'm not on the go in my yoga leggings and a messy bun, I am preparing for the Miss California USA pageant that I will be competing in this December.

BIKINI: In regards to fashion, when did you come into your own?

LO: I really came into my own personal style after I graduated from college. Once I was less influenced by my friends' style and classmates I was around all the time at USC, my style became more reflective of whatever I had on my schedule that day.

BIKINI: What phases of personal style have you gone through in the past?

LO: In the past, I experimented with many different styles and that's something I'll always do. I love to keep up with the latest trends, then add my own personal style to them to make it special and unique to myself. Personal style is a way to tell a story about yourself, and as my story is continuously updated and evolving, my style will, too.

BIKINI: What are you wearing?

LO: The suit is by Brynja Swimwear, necklaces by Luv Aj, and the ring and earrings were graduation gifts from my mom.

BIKINI: What made this suit stand out to you?

LO: What initially stood out to me was the lace and frills on the shoulders. I like that it's a simple, yet very feminine detail. I also love the folklore-inspired pattern. My heritage is Scandinavian, so this just made it extra special to me.

BIKINI: Why did you choose to buy this suit?

LO: It's a very unique and memorable suit. When I'm online shopping, I add things to my cart, then leave them there for a day or two. If I'm still thinking about an item after I've left the site and am doing other things, then I know it's an item I'll be really excited about when it arrives — versus something that just caught my eye in the moment. This was definitely one of those suits!

BIKINI: What vibe were you going for in this look?

LO: In this look, I wanted to play up the boho-chic. I layered a few Luv Aj necklaces because they are delicate and don't distract from the busy pattern, but still add something else to notice.

BIKINI: What's something others might not know about this bikini — a detail or feature that made you fall in love with it even more?

LO: The ties in the front! You can't really see them in this photo because my arms are crossed, but they are super long and fringed at the bottom. You can adjust how tight they are for a little more "oomph" in the cleavage area, which is always fun. Also, the bottoms are great. They are just cheeky enough, but still keep you covered.

Laura Odegard For Love & Lemons White Bikini

BIKINI: What are you wearing here?

LO: For Love & Lemons top and bottom, a Luv Aj necklace, and sunglasses from JoJo Direct.

BIKINI: What made this suit stand out to you?

LO: The unique top is what initially stood out to me. Also, I love a crisp white bathing suit because it's clean and chic.

BIKINI: What vibe were you going for in this look?

LO: In this look, I wanted to have my hair pulled back so I could show off the top. The ruffles and the criss-cross are really the stars of the show and I wanted to accentuate that.

BIKINI: What's something others might not know about this suit — a detail or feature that made you fall in love with it even more?

LO: This bathing suit isn't adjustable on top, which is actually nice. You never have to worry about something sliding out of place — I feel very secure in it!
