Gorgeous, juicy currants are currently (pardon the pun) cropping up at farmer's markets across the country, and we can't help but gobble them by the handful.

Like teeny globes of perfectly tart, sweet juice, they're delicious swap-outs for the usual blueberries on your yogurt, and make yummy mix-ins for a basic scone or muffin batter. When we found this ice cream recipe, though, we took pause: The combination of cream and currants is so decadent, and the recipe so very, very simple. Grab a pint and get churning.

Makes 1 quart

3 cups heavy cream

3/4 cup sugar

pinch of salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

4 large egg yolks

1 cup fresh currants
