Not All Calories Are Created Equal

Posted by Bikini Owner

Calories can be your best friend, or worst enemy. You may think “food is food”, but when it comes to calories some are way better than others.

Because not all calories are created equal, it can be difficult to know how many of them you should eat per day. A gram of fat has nine calories while a gram of protein or carb only has four. But this doesn’t mean you should cut out fats.

Fat and protein are broken down more slowly, so they keep us feeling full longer on fewer calories and do not cause as many hormonal spikes. While carbs spike insulin and blood-sugar levels causing us to store fat if it isn’t used as energy.

Next time you want to start a new eating regimen remember that cutting calories too low can actually make you gain weight since you body is prepping for your next diet (aka famine). The bare minimum caloric intake for women should never dip below 1,100 calories per day.

As they say, you can’t exercise off an unhealthy diet. It matters where your calories come from! Stick to lean protein, low glycemic carbs and fruits and veggies daily to ensure your optimum health.
